The idea of taking the time to help others can be overwhelming just to think about, especially considering how busy life is right now. The last thing we need is another item on the checklist or another priority on the agenda. However, helping others does not have to entail volunteer hours or donations to a charity. All it requires is one moment during the day in which you place another person before you. Here are some ideas for performing small acts of kindness:
- When walking out of the coffee shop or into a restaurant, simply holding the door for a stranger is a kind gesture.
- If you are in a car, especially during a rush-hour commute during which everyone is likely frustrated and not thinking about acts of kindness, let a fellow driver into your lane or let a tailgater pass.
- Listen carefully. Do not let this one fool you. Simply listening intently with unbroken concentration can be one of the greatest acts of kindness, whether to a family member, friend, or complete stranger.
